God places the lonely in families; he sets the prisoners free and gives them joy. But he makes the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land
Psalms 68:6
It takes more than great programmes to build a great church. It takes more than hard workers and sacrificial servants to build a great church. It takes great people, great families, and great homes to really make a great church. We are raising and empowering Christlike role models, but hopefully we are building it by building people and building families, and if we do that, together we will be building a great church as a by-product, and all to the glory of God!
We have a great example of this in Acts 18:1-3, 18-19, 24-26 in the form of a couple, Aquila and Priscilla. I believe that God intended for the Christian life to be a family affair. The Bible teaches that it is ideal for entire families to love and serve God together. Examples are the Philippian Jailer in Acts 16:31; the family of John the Baptist, his mother and father in Luke 1:15, 1:41, 1:67. They had an experience of the Holy Spirit: father, mother, and son – the whole family. Paul’s protégé, Timothy, came from a godly mother who was raised by a godly mother herself. Now it does not happen automatically but intentionally.
We need a revival in the home…we need a revival of families that starts with fathers and mothers intentionally getting serious about the things of God and also training their children to join the path. Aquila and Priscilla were a family under pressure because of the situation of their day, but they were also a family that served God intentionally. God is interested in families, and it is needful that we study and know His heartbeat for families. We have to be concerned too about what is happening in families and seek to raise families that reflect the mind and intent of God for families. This must be intentionally done, and together we will raise great families. Our aim must be to raise the next generation that reflects God’s original intention.
Prayer: Lord, we pray that You help us to follow Your guide in raising families that will fulfil Your purpose and original intention in the Name of Jesus, Amen.
